The role of the Modesto Junior College Institutional Review Board (IRB) is to protect
employee participants from potential harm that may be incurred during the research process. The
IRB will oversee MJC’s compliance with federal regulations regarding research involving human
subjects (45 CFR 46) and the promotion of a favorable climate for academic-oriented inquiry.
When scholarly work involves the use of Human Subjects for data collection and analysis, the IRB reviews research proposals to ensure: the rights and welfare of human subjects are protected, risks have been considered and minimized, the potential for benefit has been identified and maximized, and research is conducted in an ethical manner and in compliance with established standards.
