Application Guide

This guide will take you through the process of creating an OpenCCC account, and applying to MJC.

If it has been over one year since you applied or attended a class, you will need to complete a new application.
Contact CCC Apply Help for technical assistance, or for help recovering your account.
Unsure which School (academic major group) to select on the application? Watch this video on Schools at MJC.

High school students must also complete the Special Part-Time Petition for Advanced Admission form.

Tips Check the email you listed on the application for confirmation that your application was processed, your w# (student ID), and for information regarding setting up your student email. If you do not have a social security number or your ITIN (Taxpayer Identification Number) Select "No, I do not have a social security number or taxpayer identification number, or I decline to provide one at this time." Then follow up with us using, May I help you, at the bottom of the page, for further assistance. For more information, check out the MJC Guide for DACA and Undocumented Students If you are undecided about taking summer courses, complete the Summer Application, which will allow you to register for Summer or Fall. If you complete the Fall application and later decide to take Summer courses, you will need to complete a new Summer application in order to Register If you are a current highschool student, you will need to submit a new application when you graduate. A petition is not required once you graduate, and a new applicaiton will remove that registration requirement/block for you.

While you wait for your application to be processed in order to complete Steps 2 - 5, start working on Step 6 - Financial Aid!

Student Email, Pirates Net, & Placement

Single sign on - Set up your student email to login to each

Check the personal email you listed on your MJC application for steps on how to create your password.
- For email set up help visit IT Service Desk - Student Email FAQ's
- For login assistance contact Student IT Services at (209) 575-7900, option #4
- Login to your student email.
Navigate MJC's student portal & PiratesNet
- View and verify your Math & English Placement under "Test Summary"
- If you have graduated high school within the last 10 years, you will receive your placement automatically from MJC Application.
  - If you do not have a high school record from the last 10 years, choose the self-guided placement option.

Tips

You will need to complete Math & English Placement in order to qualify for Priority Registration.

All email communications from MJC will go to your student email.
It may take up to 24 hours after your application is processed, for access to Piratesnet and student email set up.
Contact Student IT Services Desk - for questions or technical assistance.
Download the Outlook App on your smart phone for quick access to your student email.

How to Update Chosen Name, Pronouns, and Gender

If you are still learning English, visit the Testing Center to take the ESL assessment test, which will place you in an ESL class that matches your skill level.

English Language Learner Course & Program Recommendation

3 Orientation

Learn about MJC resources, services, rules, regulations, and how to register for classes.

Tips

Log in with your student email in order to receive credit for completion.
You will need to complete Orientation in order to qualify for Priority Registration.

4 Meet With a Counselor

Visit the counseling webpage for more information regarding services.
- Counselors are able to assist you with academic, personal, crisis, and career counseling.
- Join the line for drop-in counseling, or see options for scheduling an appointment.

It may take 24-48 hours for access to Starfish after receiving your w# (student ID)
Submit your plan for approval so a counselor can review/approve and give you credit for your Core Step for Priority Registration!
Schedule an appointment during the semester with a counselor to complete or review your Comprehensive Education Plan
If the class has already started, you will need to email the faculty to request an Add Authorization.

Tips

You will need to complete a Degree Plan in order to qualify for Priority Registration.
- Your degree plan in Starfish is your guide for when you search & register for courses in Piratesnet. Make sure to register on your registration date/time.
  - You are not registered for courses if you only have a Starfish Degree Plan.
What’s a Major and General Education Patterns Video
To use an AP examination score to satisfy a course prerequisite, you will need to request a Prerequisite/Corequisite Challenge Petition in the division office offering the course.
Dual Enrollment/high school students - submit your Special Part-Time Petition for Advanced Admission form prior to your registration date & time.

Registration Support

Registration Tips

Register by clicking on the section # in the class schedule, or log into PiratesNet to access Registration.
- Confirm you are logged in when you are transferred to the Registration area (top right hand corner).
- You should see a blue button underneath the course that says, Add to Plan.
- Click on Register & Drop Classes in order to finish Registration.

Found a class that has already started? On the waitlist for a course and not sure of next step?

If not already on the waitlist, Request an Add Authorization directly from the faculty.
- Disregard any messages regarding entering a code.
- Include the course section # and name of the course you are requesting to add when sending them an email request.
If already on the waitlist, wait for a notification sent to your student email with the Add Authorization.

Add Authorization Tips

Once Add Authorization is received via your student email, use the Add Authorization Guide to complete registration.
Add authorization can only be used once the class section begins.
Add authorization can be revoked by the instructor if the course is not added in a timely manner. Check your student email daily for Add Authorization notification.

*Once added, the course should appear in your Canvas Dashboard within 3-9 hours.
