California College Promise Grant
California residents may be eligible to have enrollment fees waived. The California College Promise Grant (CCPG) assists eligible students with the enrollment fees by waiving the student's tuition fees (currently $46 per unit). Students are responsible for paying the MJC general fees which include all materials cost for any course.
To be considered for this assistance, students must:
- Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), California Dream Act Application (CADAA) or the California College Promise Grant Application (CCPG).
The 2024-2025 CCPG Application covers Summer 2024, Fall 2024, Spring 2025.
- Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards for California College Promise Grant. For more information go to California College Promise Grant Regulations.
- Be a California resident, AB540 or AB1899 eligible student or homeless youth who meet eligibility requirements
- Meet one of the following qualifying methods (CCPG A, CCPG B, or CCPG C) listed below:

Independent Students: A student qualifies if he/she receives assistance from or meets any of the following criteria. Documentation is required as indicated on the CCPG application. Submit supporting documentation along with the CCPG applicaiton to be consider for a CCPG A.
* Dependents of Veterans must submit the CalVet Fee Waiver and the CCPG application to waive the mandatory system wide tuition and fees at Modesto Junior College. |

2024-2025Students who are dependent on either the FAFSA or CADAA and meet the following criteria, are considered independent on the California College Promise Grant (CCPG) paper form:

A student who does not meet eligibility requirements for CCPG A or B can apply through the FAFSA or CADAA application. A student qualifies if he/she is determined to have minimum unmet need (as annually established by the Chancellor's Office) by the Student Financial Services Office. |
IMPORTANT!! The California College Promise Grant is good for 3 semesters. Students do not need to re-apply every semester.
California College Promise Grant for Respiratory Care Program – BS Degree
Students accepted into the Bachelor of Science Respiratory Care program at MJC will pay $130 per unit (upper division coursework fee of $84 and enrollment fee of $46). If eligible for a California College Promise Grant, the $46 per unit will be waived leaving the student to pay $84 per unit as required pursuant to Education Code 78042 (g)(5). Students in this program may apply for the California College Promise Grant by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Cal Dream Act Application (CADAA) only. Paper applications cannot be considered.
Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards for California College Promise Grant.
If you don't keep up your grades or complete your classes, you will get notified within
30 days of the end of each term if you are being placed on either Academic (GPA) or
Progress (Course Completion) probation. If you have two consecutive terms of probation,
you may lose eligibility for the fee waiver at your next registration opportunity.
You can regain your eligibility by:
*Improving your GPA or Course Completion to meet the academic and progress standards
*Successfully appealing under extenuating circumstances (see VALID REASONS TO APPEAL
below)
*Not attending your school district for one year (not including summer)
VALID REASONS TO APPEAL:
*Verified accidents, illness or other circumstances beyond your control
*Changes in an economic situation
*Evidence of inability to obtain essential support services
*Special consideration factors for CalWORKs, EOPS, DSPS and veteran students
*Disability accommodations not received promptly
NOTE: When you file a FAFSA, you are applying for a California College Promise Grant as well as other grants, loans, and work-study.
Check with the Student Financial Services Office to see if you have already been awarded
a California College Promise Grant through your FAFSA or CADAA before you submit a
paper application.
